Andrea Bryant, Jacqueline Clawson and Reed Sage Receive 2018 CoBank Outstanding Student Scholarships

 

October 23, 2018 (MANHATTAN, Kan.) – Andrea Bryant of Cimarron, Kansas, a senior in agribusiness and accounting; Jacqueline Clawson of Meade, Kansas, a senior in agricultural economics and business marketing; and Reed Sage of Maple Hill, Kansas, a senior in agricultural economics, have each been awarded the CoBank Outstanding Student Scholarship through the Arthur Capper Cooperative Center and the Department of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University.

 

Andrea Bryant is actively involved in several community service projects through her membership in the National Collegiate Scholars organization.  She is a member of Collegiate Farm Bureau and participates in volunteer mission activities through her church. During the summer of 2017 Andrea completed an internship with Seaboard Foods. She is anticipating a May 2019 graduation and would like to pursue a career as an agricultural accountant. The Bryant family is affiliated with the following cooperatives: Pride Ag Resources and Victory Electric Cooperative Association.

 

Jacqueline Clawson is a College of Agriculture Ambassador and a student fellow for the Center for Risk Management at K-State. She is a Sales Ambassador and participates on the College of Business Sales Competition Team. Jacqueline was selected to compete in a European Sales Competition in Scotland and has also participated in study abroad experiences in India and Ireland. She is actively involved in National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) and works part-time in the Sales Lab. Jacqueline has had internships with CoBank, John Deere, Seed Sowers LLC and Plains State Bank. Upon graduation in December 2019, she would like to work as in agricultural marketing. The Clawson family is affiliated with the following cooperatives: CMS Rural Electric Co-op, Cooperative Elevator and Supply (Meade), Dairy Farmers of America, Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma, Plains Equity Exchange & Cooperative, and United Telephone Association.

 

Reed Sage is an active member of the Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Club. He is a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and has served in several leadership roles. Reed participated in a study abroad experience in Ireland and has completed internships with American AgCredit and John Deere Financial. Reed plans to graduate in May 2019 and would like to pursue a career in banking. The Sage family is affiliated with the following cooperative: FreeState Electric Cooperative.

 

 

“The CoBank Outstanding Student Scholarships are one way CoBank contributes to the education of future agricultural leaders with an interest in a career in finance or banking at Kansas State University,” states Professor Brian Briggeman, director of the Arthur Capper Cooperative Center. This scholarship has awarded over $81,000 since 2006. To be eligible for a scholarship, students must be a sophomore, junior or senior in high academic standing in K-State’s Department of Agricultural Economics at the time the scholarship is received. Preference is given to students who are studying agricultural economics or agribusiness, who have demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career in banking or finance, have taken accounting or finance classes and are residents in one of the following states: CA, CO, CT, IA, KS, KY, MO, MN, NE and TX.

 

The awarding of the CoBank Outstanding Student Scholarships is coordinated through the Arthur Capper Cooperative Center. “Additional contributions by those who want to support the purposes of cooperative scholarships are welcome,” Dr. Briggeman said. They should be made payable to “KSU Foundation/ACCC” and sent to the Arthur Capper Cooperative Center, Department of Agricultural Economics, 305 Waters Hall, Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas. 66506.
